The celebration of the 150th anniversary of the decision of the U.S. Supreme Court in the Dartmouth College Case was held on April 9, 1969, in the Court of Claims, Washington, D.C.; the celebration also commemorated the career of Daniel Webster, the advocate who defended the case before the Supreme Court. The literary society was founded by members of the Class of 1843 their sophomore year. Its purpose was "for mutual advancement in useful knowledge; ... and for the cultivation of the sublime art of oratory ..." The society met weekly for orations and debate. Tt was dissolved in 1842.
